Whether you like it or not, “haters” are just a natural part of becoming successful within the entertainment industry. Whether the person is jealous, confused, or simply doesn’t like your music, dealing with criticism is certainly a difficult topic for pretty much everybody creating content. In this article, we’re going to discuss why people give negative feedback and criticism in the music industry, and how you can overcome it in order to become more successful. After all, there’s nothing worse than being distracted by people who you’ll probably never meet.

In order to stop caring what haters think, you simply have to stop caring about what people think of you. Period. They don’t like your music? Good for them. They don’t want to buy tickets to your shows? Their loss. Often, people will impose their will and opinion on someone in order to seem more powerful over the internet. When in reality, it’s common for this activity to be an excuse for something in their life they weren’t keen on – and thus want to take their anger out on others. For example, being bullied. If someone doesn’t like you, adjust to it. Understand their opinion and move on. The answer is quite simple.

The truth is that nothing is better than proving everybody wrong. There’s nothing better than rising like a phoenix from the ashes. Many large music industry influencers within EDM see negative comments on a daily (or even hourly basis). Accepting that there are always going to be haters is just a part of the job. You’re never going to get positive reactions on every single song you make, or piece of content you upload. But you can’t please everyone. With that in mind, we’ve taken a look at some steps that you can apply to your career in order to overcome negative feedback. Firstly, you should turn obstacles into opportunities. Look at negative behaviors from some consumers, and try to understand why they feel that way. By understanding the other person and deploying empathy, it instantly gives you a chance to look at an issue from both perspectives.

Next, surrounding yourself with people that are positive thinkers is crucial to maintaining a happy life and career. Establishing a network of positive people as your “inner circle” will help provide you with positive thoughts, and thus allow you to not succumb to negativity. Also, replace any negative thoughts with trust in yourself that you can achieve something. For example, if somebody says that you can’t achieve 100,000 streams, use that as motivation to go out and prove them wrong. At the end of the day, positive thinking and hard work will lead to successful results. It’s fairly important to build relationships based on trust within the music industry. If you trust somebody, and they trust you, there’s a high probability of that relationship being positive and fruitful. In contrast, if there’s a lot of skepticism and distrust between two individuals, it will simply lead to negative thoughts and emotions.

Avoiding arguments is vital to avoiding negative thoughts and feedback within the music industry. During a debate with somebody, try and understand their point of view, and create common ground to agree on. By showing respect to the other person, it’ll show that you are able to handle disagreements in a well thought out manner.
