Ever since the launch of YouTube, we’ve seen how it has helped so many people go viral just by an upload of a single video. Music videos and videos, in general, are key for promoting your content that can often go overlooked. We already know that YouTube has been a leading online video service for quite some time now, but what other platforms can you expand your reach on?

Facebook video

Facebook is already a popular social media platform and it has also become very powerful at making videos go viral. Of course you can link your YouTube video and post it as a status on there, but why not do both? Post the link, then the video as its own status. When you post directly on the platform, you benefit Facebook and so they try to boost the video onto other timelines as promotion to maximize views. They also sort their videos so that similar videos play after one another which can expand your audience. Facebook can also give you a more specific breakdown, allowing you to compare your audience with your audience on other platforms like YouTube. You’ll be able to figure out who’s viewing your creations and how to improve your reach with future ads and content.

Vimeo and DailyMotion

We all come across certain videos that leave more of an impact on us than on others and if that sounds a lot like your content, Vimeo may just become a second home to you. Having around 70 million visitors each month, Vimeo is a home to artists who seek to outdo themselves with every creation whether it be just a song, a video, or both. Even though 70 million visitors may not sound like a lot compared to YouTube, Vimeo has managed to create a very engaging and close community. With each unique piece of content, your work is sure to be shared within such a strong community of appreciative artists. Vimeo has a no advertisement rule unlike YouTube, which is a huge benefit because advertisements have been shown to discourage people from watching the actual video. Privacy has always been key to Vimeo and they even offer a “password video” option where you can share an unpublished video with close friends. On the other hand, DailyMotion is a platform that focuses more on the quality of the video, all while protecting the creators. Working similarly to YouTube’s business model, DailyMotion restricts others from taking and discrediting your work as long as you have rights over it.

Why not just YouTube?

Although YouTube is the largest video server in the world, it makes sense to utilize the other websites available. A benefit of publishing content on a smaller website is that you have fewer people on there with you, resulting in little competition which makes it more easy for your video to get popular and be seen. The smaller platforms give you a chance to be marketed by them as well as encouraging more people to come across your content. It definitely wouldn’t hurt to publish on any of those sites as it can only benefit you and expand your crowd.
