Music Charities: Get Involved
Being a musician isn’t just about the music, money, and shows, but is also about how much you give back to the community. One of the greatest things you can do is fuel communities and create a mutual support system. A relationship where you’re there for the people in various communities and they’re there for you as an active audience. Music soothes the souls of many people in such a hectic world, so how can you reach out to communities in need of healing through music?
Bring your Music to Them
Realizing how therapeutic music can be, the number of nonprofit charities that are changing the world through music is increasing rapidly. Nonprofits such as Guitars in the Classroom take you into school classrooms and let you perform in front of students of various ages to musically intrigue them. They yearn to keep students on the right path and want them to be focused on the more creative side of life to prevent them from going down a rather tumultuous path. They also offer free music integration classes to better the students’ experience. Performing with a genuine intent to please the students is what really creates the start of a relationship. Who knows, maybe you could inspire a future music artist in one of the classrooms.
Anyone who has ever been to a hospital can only imagine how boring and gloomy it can begin to feel after a few days and being ill can only make that feeling worse. A nonprofit called Musicians On Call (MOC) was created to bring joy to patients in hospitals globally. Since 1999, they have collaborated with various artists to perform live shows for nearly half a million patients in hospital rooms. The President of MOC explains how there have been so many live shows in the hospital where veterans have moved their severely injured limbs after months, they have seen kids who never smile due to conditions smile like never before. Using your creations to rekindle someone’s happiness might even inspire you to expand your music platform to performing more loving acts.
Change The World
Music is for everyone and the power it has to unite and heal people is undeniable. Musicians Without Borders, a platform created to help those who have been displaced through political turmoil and more, is a nonprofit that aims to give a “voice to the voiceless”. Through music, communications manager, Danny Mekori, strives to provide a safe place where people can develop and connect with communities. He works to bring music everywhere disregarding borders and says “for children in Palestinian refugee camps, HIV+ youth in Central Africa, or aspiring young rock musicians in ethnically divided Kosovo, making music helps develop talents, connect with others and express hopes and dreams. Empowered by these experiences, many become role models for their peers or teachers for children in their own communities.”. With a convenient way to sign up, Musicians Without Borders is open to hearing from and working with various artists like you.
Invest in the Youth
The Roots of Music, a nonprofit inspired by the experiences of Derrick Tabb works to help guide the youth into a better future. Growing up in New Orleans, Tabb often struggled with saving himself from self-destruction and remembered how music would save him each time. After winning a Grammy with his band, he headed back to New Orleans in 2007 to focus on the youth today. He remembered his childhood and knew that music was the best way to get through to the youth and protect them from engaging with trouble. Tabb says through his genuine effort to help the future, he has learned the most about creating tracks, marketing, and more.
Whether your passion to help people is more community based or global, use your passion for music to impact more lives. There are so many ways to spread happiness and to have your music be one is simply phenomenal. Your content might be more significant to your audience than you think.
